We are looking to install a sump pump in our crawlspace. Has anyone done it before? I'd like to get references for contractors. |

if your current sump pump is not working, don't wait to replace until the next rain. |

I think it is cheaper just to get a plumber to do it. I have been using Eddy, 202.352.0402, for many years, Here is his website, http://crownplumber.com here is the info on the forum, http://hope-forum.com/company.php?cid=413 Thanks Joe |

Regarding the sump pump... (I knew we had something installed, so I asked my husband) Having a backup battery is better than nothing, but it will only last for a few hours. And you have to maintain the battery and replace it once awhile. We have installed a backup sump pump powered by water. Below is the description of it. Water-Powered Sump Pumps are installed above the pump pit and are powered by your water supply instead of electricity. These systems use your town water supply and depend on your home's water pressure for pumping capacity. |

Thanks all for the great information. Waterproof is a business notorious for ripoff contractors so I am writing a summary of our experience. I contacted the two companies Richard Wang emailed. All American Water Proofing INC, MIke 301-832-2116 and Radon Abatement SVCs John 202 213 6200 It turned out John does not install sump pump. But he gave me these two companies All Aspects Waterproffing http://www.allaspectswaterproofing.com/ and Desert Dry Waterproofing http://www.desertdry.com/requestform_dc.htm I had all three companies giving me estimates. All three estimators seem very honest and not pushy at all. The price All American and Desert Dry gave are very close ($2600 vs $2700). All Aspects sent an estimator today. This guys was extremely helpful. He found that our problem was probably due to an drain pipe that is no longer used but not sealed. He gave us detailed instructions on how to seal it and told us to call him if this $20 solution does not work. I would highly recommend anyone who has water problem to call all these companies before deciding on what to do. Jane |

Jane, Thanks for the following up, I'm glad that I could hear some real person feedback for these contractors I use again and again myself. You know before I recommend them to you, I already did some homework. |
