I had similar experience with another contractor. I only remember his last name was mao3 (卯 or 铆 or 峁) and he was from 东北, maybe 沈阳. He was very nice before we decided to hire him. Then he never kept his promises. Delayed his starting date by 15 days. Once he started, he wanted $800 more. Made a mess in my house and refused to take the junk away. So be careful if you see this guy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 17 Jul 2012 05:38:46 -0700 Subject: Re: [hope-forum] please recommend a contractor Please try NOT hire 吴启新 (his # 3017939116) as your next contractor. We had a nightmarish experience with him. Below is the list Wu's very dishonest behaviors, Gives a lower verbal estimate, but refuses to give a written estimate after the first down payment; Denies his promises, because his promises were not in written; Keeps postpone the deadline of completion after taking the initial money payment; Takes the money (two third of his verbal estimate) and run away; Demands full payment even before his complete the work, or he refuse to work. We finally got rid of him. Called a Mexican guy, Joel Sanzes, 703 582 7952. we are happy with his work. Thanks. S. Y. |

For big job (over $1000), you should hire licensed contractor (see the link below to check the VA license). If you hired a licensed contractor and he didn't finish the work to your satisfication, you can make a claim to the Transaction Recovery Fund from the state and recover you lost from the state. But if he is not licensed the state can't enforce any legal action on him. http://www.dpor.virginia.gov/LicenseLookup/ |
